Change to Meet this Thursday, June 23
Hello Team!
We have had a change in plans that affects our meet on this Thursday, June 23rd. Because of the forecasted temps at or above 100 degrees, team reps were advised to consider alternative plans for their meets this week. So, instead of having an away meet at Saddle Creek, we will have a “virtual” meet at home on Thursday. If you swam with us last summer, you are familiar with how this works. Everyone should arrive at the pool at 5pm for a meet start time of 5:30pm. Only our team will be at our pool so we will be able to utilize all five lanes for our swimmers and we will combine events wherever we can so that we move through the meet more quickly. Times will be taken for each race and entered into the computer just like at a normal meet and swimmers will still earn ribbons that we will give out at Fun Friday the next day. Based on how this worked last year, I anticipate that we will be done with the meet around 7pm or so. Having each team swim at its own pool speeds up the meet and reduces the amount of time that we are all out in the extreme heat. New umbrellas for the pool deck are being delivered Monday so we will get to enjoy those! We will plan to set up some of the umbrellas near the dive blocks/finish line so that the timers and recorders have some relief from the sun. We will also have “light” concessions such as drinks, chips, ice pops and pizza for sale. I will be making some adjustments to the volunteer roles since it will only be our team at the pool. We won’t really need any bullpen parents but we will need more timers and recorders than we typically do.
I appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we change things up this week. Please don’t forget to RSVP/Volunteer at https://hhhurricanes.swimtopia.com by Tuesday, June 21 at noon.
Also, don’t forget that John Adams will be taking a team picture at 6pm on Tuesday, June 21st. Swimmers at the 5-5:45pm practice are asked to hang around for 15 minutes after their practice and swimmers at the 6:15-7pm practice are asked to arrive 15 minutes early so that everyone can be in the photo together. Be sure to wear your Hampton Hall swimsuit for the photo! If you have photos that you have taken at the last two meets, please upload them to the Shutterfly site so that we can get them added to the slide show for the awards ceremony next week.
Please let me know if you have any questions! Go Hurricanes!
Jessica
