Inclement Weather Policy - Practices
In case of inclement weather (thunder/lightning, temperature drop, etc.,) we will notify the team via email as soon as possible. Note, practices may still proceed in light or sporadic rain with otherwise warm temperatures. In all cases, the sound of thunder or appearance of lighting, the pool will be closed for 30 minutes since the last instance of thunder or lightning.
Prior to practice: if you hear thunder or see lightning within 30 minutes of your swimmers' practice time, you can assume that practice segment (but not all age groups) are cancelled. If the forecast for bad weather is certain enough, we will notify the team via email of cancellations as early as possible.
During Practice: If there is thunder or lightning during an age group practice, that practice segment will be cancelled. Swimmers and families can shelter in the clubhouse as needed. If later practice segments will be affected, families will be notified by email.
Inclement Weather Policy - Meets
In case of inclement weather or a forecast of it, safety will be the highest priority while every effort will be made by both teams to start, continue, and/or complete the meet.
Prior to the meet: With safety as the highest priority, every team member should plan to arrive on time to the meet regardless of forecast or outlook. If the meet proceeds and your swimmers and volunteers are not there, you will create extra work, delay, and confusion in an already stressful time and you will put your team at a competitive disadvantage.
During the Meet: There are specific rules and procedures in place of how the two teams will delay, postpone, call off, or reschedule a meet. Generally, every sight of lightning or sound of thunder will result in the pool being closed for 30 minutes with that time resetting at each subsequent lightning/thunder. ASA rules regarding how the teams manage the delay and when to resume or cancel the meet are in the ASA rule book Here on page 16. The only people involved in the discussion and decision will be the two Team Reps, the two Coaches, and the Referee. If you have questions, feedback, or input, please share them only with your team's Rep.
If a meet is delayed by lighting or thunder, you will be instructed where to take shelter (usually the home team's facility or your vehicle). Please do not leave the meet until the official decision to resume, cancel, or reschedule.
