Registration is Open!
Hello Hampton Hall Hurricanes!
Registration for swim team is now open! We are moving forward with having a team this season. With the smaller team size and safety precautions in place, some things will be different this year. As a reminder there will be
-symptom and temperature checks for all participants before entering the pool deck
-six feet spacing between participants
-wearing of masks when not in the water
-separate entrance and exit for swimmers coming to practice
-no shared equipment like kickboards-you’ll need to bring your own
Because of the social distancing requirements we are not able to offer tadpole swim this year. We will have a 6 & Under group but only children who are able to swim the length of the pool unassisted may participate in swim team.
Coaches: We plan to hire a head coach and an assistant coach this year. We are not planning to hire any junior coaches this year since we do not have the number of beginning swimmers that we typically have.
Help us recruit! We need your help recruiting your kids' friends from your neighborhood, school, sports teams, etc. The more kids we have, the more fun your kids will have. The most effective recruiters we have are you and your family!
Planned Practice Schedule: In May we will have afternoon practices. Based on the current number of participants, we have consolidated the 6 & Under , 7/8 and 9/10 practices into a single session from 5:00-5:45 pm. All swimmers 11 & up will practice at the same time from 6:00-7:00pm. In June practices are split as follows:
Morning Practices: Mondays & Wednesdays
- 9:00 – 9:45am 6 & Under, 7/8 & 9/10 Year Old Practice
- 10:00 –11:00am 11 & Up Practice
Afternoon Practices: Tuesdays & Thursdays
- 5:00 – 5:45pm 6 & Under, 7/8 & 9/10 Year Old Practice
- 6:00 – 7:00 pm 11 & Up Practice
Meets: Meets for Hampton Hall are virtual this year which means that only our swimmers are at the pool and we do not have to travel anywhere. We will have a great deal of flexibility to swim events on own schedule during the week. It is not necessary for teams to swim at the same time to complete a virtual meet. The only requirement would be completing events by a set date/time like Friday at 1 pm. We are currently planning to record times during the Thursday practice sessions. And, because our meets are virtual, you do not need to purchase a Hampton Hall swim suit this year.
Volunteering: As you know from past years, swim team is not a spectator sport! However, virtual meets require far fewer volunteers. The main need for a virtual meet would be timers/recorders and some helpers to get kids lined up behind the blocks for their events. We will also on occasion need parents to be the adult monitor for a practice session.
This is a great opportunity to get our kids together with other kids their age to exercise and have fun. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
I can’t wait to see everyone at the pool!
