Swim Team Update 6/8
Hello Hampton Hall Hurricanes,
I hope that you are all doing well and staying healthy. In a typical summer we would be two meets into the swim season already. We have all been holding out hope but unfortunately at this point in time we will not be able to have a swim team at Hampton Hall this summer. Even with the pool hopefully opening in the next two weeks or so, the strict health department requirements will apply to team practices and what would be virtual meets.
Even if we get to point where up to 50 people can gather, which the ASA has set as its benchmark for being able to have a swim season, we still have the social distancing factor to consider. Given the guidelines on social distancing and the size of our pool deck area it is just not viable for us to hold practices as we don’t have enough space to spread out in the manner that we are required to. Not only do coaches have to remain 6 ft apart from the swimmers, swimmers must also remain 6ft apart from each other throughout the duration of practice. We will not be able to offer the tadpoles program or accommodate any swimmer who cannot swim the length of the pool independently this summer because of the social distancing guidelines.
The ASA is still hoping that the situation may change as the state eases these requirements
but for now 70% of the teams in the ASA have said they will not have a team this summer. If the requirements change we will certainly revisit the possibility of holding practices or some shortened variation of a season but given the current conditions it is just not viable for us. I will be reaching out to the families that have already registered about the process for refunding registration fees.
Thank you for all your support throughout this process. Please let me know if you have any questions.
