Hello Hurricane Families,

I hope that you are all doing well. I want to provide everyone with an update on the swim team. As you may know from the communication from the Hampton Hall board, our pool will not be open until June at the earliest so the swim team will be on a delay until June or July. Practices would likely not be able to start until we reach a point where groups of up to 50 people can gather. If practices are able to start by mid to late June then we may be able to have a first meet in July and finish up before August when hopefully kids will be headed back to school. It is possible that instead of having in person meets we would have virtual meets.

The ASA says that virtual meets will provide a lot of positives. First, this allows teams to maintain social distancing guidelines spelled out by health officials to keep everyone safe. Second, teams will have a great deal of flexibility to swim their events on their own schedule during the week. It would not be necessary for teams to swim at the same time to complete a virtual meet. The only requirement would be completing events by a set date/time like Friday at 1 pm. For example, a team could swim their 8 and under events on Monday, 9-10 events on Tuesday, etc.. Third, virtual meets require far fewer volunteers. The main need for a virtual meet would be timers and possibly some helpers to get kids lined up behind the blocks for their events. If we can find a way to have in person meets safely, we will certainly do so, but we need to plan for the safest option possible.

Registration for the Hampton Hall Hurricanes swim team is open at https://hhhurricanes.swimtopia.com and ASA is not charging any late fees until further notice. The league is doing everything it can to have a season and make it safe. Our ability to proceed with the season also depends on Sears opening the pool and the HH board allowing the season to take place. We are hopeful that with many other activities being canceled that swim team will be a good opportunity to get our kids active. We still have a lot of unanswered questions but we hope to have more clarity over the next month. If the delay in the timing of the season means that you will no longer be able to participate please let us know.
